Look at this gorgeous duo I found walking in one of my most lucrative small dog/big guy hunting grounds. Petal’s owner made me laugh when he said he loved the dog more than his daughter. He meant that he loves the dog more than his daughter loves the dog but it came out wrong.
I wouldn’t blame him. I think the dog is way better than his daughter.

Remember how you used to watch Sharon and Ozzy Osborne snogging their tiny dogs on that TV show and feel like barfing? In a first for Big Guy Small Dog Blog – and I say this as a fully paid up ‘cat person’ – I would have full on let this dog French me if the opportunity had arisen.
Cute doesn’t cover it. His owner, Joo, confirmed that Byron is indeed a ladies man. Which we discussed at length whilst Byron played with a grubby wet wipe he’d pulled out of a bush.

It was like a scene from Lord of the Flies when photographer Walter Briski Jr and I entered the Chelsea Dog Park with Walter’s epic Newfoundland dogs. Whilst the enormous shapes of Pookie and Autumn sat looking passively on, the smallest dogs in the park gathered atop a rock and barked merry hell at them.
‘Muscles’, a miniature Doberman Pinscher was not one of them.
'He's a lover not a fighter' said his gentle giant of an owner Oliver.
Actually he didn't but he is.

In a first for Big Guy Small Dog Blog, I publish not one, but two pictures of the same man-dog combo. This is Martin and his Chihuahua Rico, two-time winner of the Annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade. When Martin and his girlfriend broke up, he got Rico and she got the rabbit. In answer to the inevitable question, yes, the rabbit and the dog do miss each other.
The reason for two pics? In the first, Martin and his dog struck what I called a Kraftwerk-like pose. In picture two, he is laughing because unbeknownst to me; the screen saver on his phone is Kraftwerk at Coachella. Great minds think alike and all that.

So far, New York has far surpassed my expectations, not least in the big guy small dog/man quotient. Today’s picture takes the piss (in the best possible way). Not one, but three little dogs did I find attached to one very charming man.
Fifi, Coco and Ginger are Tea-cup poodles. Their owner, Zev, inherited them from his mum. Not only that but he also inherited their wardrobe - sadly not on display today - but I am assured it is extensive: jackets, skirts, shoes AND jumpers.
London can never be the same for me again now.

'You won’t be able to spit in New York for big guys with small dogs' they said. Turns out they were telling the truth. Today (amongst others) I encountered the very English sounding Reggie with his two little dogs, Rania and Milo.
Semi cheat: they are Reggie’s girlfriend’s dogs but in extenuating circumstances I decided to feature them on Big Guy Small Dog Blog.
Can you see the frou frou little bows in their hair?
Does Reggie Care?
No he does not. ‘I am secure in my sexuality’ he said. And so he was.

So there I was, poking around the halls and chambers of London's legal district with my brother (non dog lover) one afternoon and what do we find lurking amongst the temples? Tiny Missy and her tall owner, that’s what.
What prompted their ‘union’ I wanted to know. The answer was in Missy’s heartbreakingly apologetic expression. She was rescued from a broken home. ‘Every dog deserves a second chance’ said her owner….at which point, my brother’s heart melted into a puddle on the floor and he almost renounced cats.

Im having a non-purist day. The dog belongs to this guy’s girlfriend. But he likes walking it so much that I made an exception. I think you can see why.
How could I resist the combination of this charming little (female) Jack Russell, perched like a meercat atop her owner’s arms? For goodness sakes, they’ve even got a matching ear/beard colour combo thing going on!

What are the chances that you’re with a film crew trying to illustrate the point that big guys with small dogs are everywhere and you actually run into one?
We spotted Suki first, waiting patiently outside the local teahouse. Moment’s later; we extracted her owner Frank. As the cameras rolled, I popped the question. So Frank, why did you pick a small dog? He started out telling me how much his kids loved her and finished up admitting that young ladies found her appealing too.
God bless Frank for being the first man to admit this.
