As beautiful as they are, Alsatians are not posh dogs to a Londoner. They are working dogs. They were also the drug dealer’s dog of choice in the 1980’s. So it surprised me when a young dog walker outside Tompkins Square Park Dog Run informed me that the owners of the Alsatian attached to the end of his leash were so Upper East Side fancy, they’d made him promise never to even walk their pet past Tompkins Square Park Dog Run, lest some East Village juju rub off on their little prince.
As said Alsatian poked his nose through the railings and gazed longingly at hounds of every size, shape and color throwing themselves around the run, we silently acknowledged that a Rubicon had been crossed. At which, he slipped the leash and released the little darling into the run to play with new friends.
I cannot deny this Londoner laughed out loud.
None of this has anything to do with today’s picture but Big Guy Small Dog Blog was half asleep on the morning we bumped into this lovely duo so I can’t tell you anything about their genesis as a couple. Take the bad dog tale as compensation.
